Digitalization meets AI

byon develops predictive AI for intelligent, proactive monitoring and optimization of IT infrastructure

FuE-Project SNAKE 2.0

Since 2023, byon has been expanding its business by developing data-driven software solutions. Its first in-house R&D project, LeiSER (funded by Distr@l), laid the foundation for SNAKE-Analytics, a software solution for the predictive analysis and optimization of productive IT infrastructures. This technology is currently being tested in byon’s data centers to ensure the stability, performance, and availability of hosted IT services.

With the help of co-financed ERDF funding, the concept is now being further developed into specialized management and optimization software for entire data centers. For the first time, complete IT systems—rather than just individual components, as was previously the case—and their energy supply are being considered as a single, integrated system.

Building on the core modules of the SNAKE Analytics software for surrogate modeling and forecasting, a data-driven solution is being developed that analyzes high-dimensional operational data in real time, predicts critical conditions, and automatically identifies opportunities for optimization.

How Artificial Intelligence is driving our digital transformation

Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been more than just a topic for the future—it is now a strategic component of our digital transformation. At byon, we use AI in a targeted manner to make our IT infrastructure smarter, more efficient, and more proactive. This is not just about technical innovation, but about delivering real added value for our customers and our internal processes.

AI-powered forecasts give us a precise glimpse into the future: We identify potential bottlenecks early on and can allocate computing capacity as needed. The continuous refinement of our AI models ensures that our analyses become increasingly accurate—from short-term, minute-by-minute forecasts to predictions spanning entire days. At the same time, we ensure the highest standards of data protection and compliance, as our software is operated exclusively in Germany and Europe and meets all GDPR requirements.

A simplified diagram illustrates the trend in system utilisation: the red section represents the past, whilst the blue section represents the AI-based forecast. This shows at a glance how our technology works

The LeiSER project, part of the german Distr@l: Digitalisierung stärken - Transfer leben funding programme, has been successfully completed

On 8 July 2025, our LeiSER project successfully completed the final evaluation by the Hessian State Information Portal for Digital Innovations and Applications (LIDIA) and was awarded the Distr@l ‘SILVER’ quality seal as part of the funding programme’s ‘Best of the Best’ selection process.

The ‘LeiSER’ research and development project aims to develop a digital tool for assessing the performance, stability and efficiency of software-based loads on production computer systems, based on an approach derived from model-predictive control.

For the first time, byon gmbh is launching an R&D project in the field of data science with the support of the Distr@l digitalisation funding scheme run by the State of Hesse.

With the assistance of our development partner in Hesse, Treaves GmbH of Sulzbach, the aim of this R&D project is to develop an IT analysis tool, comprising a process model and a software package for the operational monitoring of the performance, stability and efficiency of our production computer systems. The development is based on modelling approaches from model-predictive control, which enable system analysis using measured operational data and a digital model of the entire system. The findings from the application of the LeiSER analysis tool are to be used to operate production computer systems in a manner that is more stable, more energy-efficient and more resource-conserving.

The aim of this development project is to address one of the key challenges facing our vTK business unit. This challenge involves synchronising the increasing performance demands arising from ever more extensive and constantly changing software functions with the hardware on which the extensive software portfolio runs, in a manner that is efficient, tailored to requirements and, above all, ensures operational stability. The sudden increase in the resource requirements of software components in use often leads to practical performance bottlenecks in the provision of digital services. As a result, the key requirement for real-time data processing across the system whilst maintaining high data quality is frequently compromised at short notice and to a severe degree. LeiSER is designed to enable the early detection of such business-critical situations in future and to counteract them efficiently.
